Pakistan Cricket Board Seeks Clarification from ICC Over Champions Trophy 2025 Logo Issue During India-Bangladesh Match Broadcast
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought clarification from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the absence of Pakistan's name on the Champions Trophy 2025 logo during the live broadcast of the India-Bangladesh match in Dubai.
During Thursday's broadcast of the match, the logo displayed only the words "Champions Trophy 2025," with no mention of the host country, Pakistan, despite being the tournament's organizer. This was a stark contrast to other tournament broadcasts, such as the opening match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi and the Afghanistan-South Africa match, where Pakistan's name was clearly visible on the logo.
This discrepancy has sparked frustration within the PCB, and they have demanded assurances that such incidents will not happen again in the future.
While the ICC has informally attributed the omission to a technical glitch, the PCB is not satisfied with this explanation, as the broadcast graphics are typically prepared in advance, and Pakistan's name was visible in the opening match. Therefore, the PCB does not find the technical glitch explanation credible.
The ICC, however, has reassured that it was indeed a technical issue and that such a problem will not occur again, regardless of the location of Champions Trophy matches, whether in Pakistan or the UAE.
Meanwhile, the debate over the location of the Champions Trophy has been ongoing for some time. While Pakistan is the official host of the tournament, India has made it clear that their government will not grant permission for their team to play in Pakistan. As a result, India’s matches have been moved to neutral venues. Under the same agreement, Pakistan will not play any ICC events in India over the next three years but will participate at neutral venues instead.
On Sunday, India and Pakistan will face off in the most anticipated match of the tournament in Dubai. This controversy over the broadcast could escalate tensions ahead of the highly awaited clash.
