Pakistan Announces Women's T20 World Cup Squad Under Fatima Sana's Leadership
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the squad for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup, with Fatima Sana appointed as the captain. The squad was selected unanimously by the Women's National Selection Committee for the tournament, which will be held from October 3 to 20 in the United Arab Emirates.
The 22-year-old Fatima Sana has played 41 ODIs and 40 T20Is. She has also led Pakistan's emerging and domestic teams. In the World Cup, Pakistan will compete in Group A alongside Australia, India, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka.
The selection committee has made only one change to the squad that played in the Women's Asia Cup held in Sri Lanka last month. Right-handed batter Sadaf Shamas has returned to the squad, replacing wicketkeeper-batter Naziha Alvi, who will still travel as a reserve.
Ten players who played in the 2023 edition, including Aliya Riaz, Fatima Sana, Muneeba Ali, Nashra Sandhu, Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Ameen, and Tuba Hassan, have been retained in the squad. The squad also includes uncapped left-arm pacer Tasmia Rubab.
