“Not Satisfaction, but Improvement Is the Goal,” Says Salahuddin

Bangladesh batting coach Mohammad Salahuddin has stressed that in international cricket, there is no room for complacency—constant improvement is the only way forward. Speaking at a press conference in Sylhet on Sunday, he underlined the relentless challenges of the global stage and the need for continuous growth.

“In our profession, there is no scope for satisfaction,” Salahuddin said. “Every day, we must learn something and try to improve. International cricket is extremely competitive, and new challenges come regularly.”

While acknowledging the role of coaches, Salahuddin pointed out that ultimate responsibility lies with the players themselves. “Even if you fill the dressing room with coaches, it won’t matter. At the end of the day, players have to improve themselves—that is what’s most important.”

According to him, many cricketers are now showing greater professionalism in their preparation, with noticeable shifts in mindset and discipline. “Several players have hired nutritionists at their own expense and are working consciously on fitness. These are signs of positive change,” he noted.

Looking to the future, Salahuddin remained both hopeful and realistic. “The five players everyone always mentions have given a lot to the country. But unless someone better comes after them, cricket won’t progress. Our responsibility is to prepare the next generation.”

He concluded on a collective note: “Everyone wants Bangladesh cricket to succeed. If the team does well, it makes all of us happy. Through combined effort, our team will become stronger.”
