New Zealand has received a significant blow ahead of the second ODI against Pakistan on April 2. Star batter Mark Chapman has been ruled out of the match due to a hamstring injury. In his place, wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert has been called up to the squad.
Chapman, who scored a brilliant century in the first ODI, will not be able to feature in the second match. He made 132 runs off 111 balls, including 13 fours and 6 sixes, before injuring himself while fielding. The injury was confirmed after an MRI scan, revealing a low-grade tear in his hamstring.
Chapman sustained the injury while fielding during the first ODI at McLean Park in Napier. As a result, he will not take part in the second ODI against Pakistan.
Tim Seifert, who has been in good form during the recently concluded T20 series against Pakistan, has been included in the squad as Chapman's replacement.
New Zealand currently leads the three-match ODI series 1-0. The second ODI, set to take place tomorrow at Seddon Park in Hamilton, is a crucial match for Pakistan, who must win to stay alive in the series. Additionally, Pakistan will also miss their own opener Usman Khan due to a hamstring injury.
