New Zealand Makes History with Series Win Against India in Pune

After securing their first Test win in India in 36 years, New Zealand has now made history by clinching their first-ever Test series victory on Indian soil. The Kiwis defeated India by 113 runs in the second Test, becoming the first team since 2012 to win a Test series in India.

New Zealand halted India’s home winning streak with stellar performances, as the hosts suffered back-to-back defeats in the series. Chasing a target of 359 in the second innings at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, India was bowled out for just 245.

India’s top scorer in the second innings was opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, with 77 runs. Ravindra Jadeja added 42, and Shubman Gill contributed 23. New Zealand’s spinner Mitchell Santner was again dominant, taking 6 wickets in the second innings, just as he did in the first.

In their first innings, New Zealand scored 259 runs, with half-centuries from Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. Washington Sundar took 7 wickets for India, while Ravichandran Ashwin claimed 3.

India, however, struggled in their first innings, bowled out for a mere 156 runs under Santner’s devastating spin attack. Jadeja was the top scorer with 38 runs. Santner took a total of 13 wickets across both innings, earning him the Player of the Match award.

Leading by 103 runs, New Zealand added another 255 in their second innings. Tom Latham scored 86, while Glenn Phillips contributed 48. Sundar continued his strong performance, taking 4 more wickets, totaling 11 across the match.

India and New Zealand will face off in the third and final Test of the series on November 1 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
