New Zealand Captain Tom Latham Ruled Out of ODI Series Against Pakistan Due to Injury

New Zealand's captain, Tom Latham, will miss the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan after suffering an injury to his right hand during a practice session. X-rays later confirmed a fracture in his hand, forcing the Kiwi captain to withdraw from the series. In his place, Mitch Hay will join the squad.

With Latham unavailable, Michael Bracewell will assume the leadership role for New Zealand. Bracewell had also captained the team during the T20 series. Meanwhile, Mitch Hay will take on the wicketkeeping duties. Additionally, Henry Nicholls, who has been in excellent form after recovering from a three-month injury layoff, has been called up to the squad.

New Zealand coach Gary Stead expressed, "A number of players are unavailable for this tour for various reasons, so we've had to be flexible. However, this has created opportunities for other players, and we're happy to bring in Rachin Ravindra, as well as welcome Henry back into the squad."

Meanwhile, Will Young will only play the first ODI match, as he will be taking paternity leave to welcome his first child shortly after. Additionally, 23-year-old debutant Rachin Ravindra, who has been impressive with a batting average of 61.73 in first-class cricket, will make his debut for New Zealand in this series.

The absence of Latham and the inclusion of new faces have altered the dynamics of New Zealand's squad for the ODI series, and the team will be hoping for a strong performance in his absence.
