Nazmul Hossain Shanto's Thoughts After Rain Affects Kanpur Test
The ongoing Test match between Bangladesh and India in Kanpur faced disruptions due to rain, resulting in no play on the second day. Match officials declared the day abandoned at 2 PM, following only 35 overs of play on the first day. Bangladesh's captain, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, expressed his disappointment regarding the situation.
In a video message from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Shanto stated, "As a player, it’s certainly an uncomfortable situation. We worked hard to get the game started, managed to play for a while, and then it was halted again. Not having any play today is definitely uncomfortable. There’s nothing we can do; it’s beyond our control. However, it would have been nice to play."
On the first day, Bangladesh scored 107 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 35 overs, with Mominul Haque at 40 and Mushfiqur Rahim at 6 not out. Shanto did not view the batting situation as dire. He believes that Bangladesh is currently in a middle position.
"I think we lost a wicket more than we should have given our batting situation. The start was good, but I wouldn’t say we are in a terrible position on this wicket. We have several batters who can form significant partnerships, which would put us in a strong position. Right now, I feel we are in a middle position."
Regarding the pitch, Shanto commented, "The wicket was good. The challenge is that the game is disrupted by rain on and off. Rain poses an obstacle to playing for a long time, and batters are batting with this in mind, which is tough. I believe the wicket will be challenging, especially since there hasn’t been much sun due to the rain. Once play resumes, we’ll see how challenging the wicket truly is."
