The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the vice-captain for the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The captain will remain Najmul Hossain Shanto.
The 27-year-old all-rounder has represented Bangladesh in 103 One Day Internationals (ODIs). During the recent tour, Miraz led the team in the absence of regular captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto during the West Indies series.
As part of the Champions Trophy preparations, pacers Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed will travel to Dubai on Saturday to join the training sessions with the Bangladesh team. Both pacers will return to Bangladesh after the opening match of the tournament on February 20, where Bangladesh will face India.
Miraz, who led Bangladesh to third place in the 2016 U-19 World Cup, will now serve as the deputy to Najmul Hossain Shanto in the Champions Trophy.
Bangladesh is placed in Group B of the Champions Trophy, alongside India, Pakistan, and New Zealand. The tournament will kick off for Bangladesh with a match against India on February 20 in Dubai. Following this, the team will travel to Pakistan, where they will face New Zealand in Rawalpindi on February 24. Three days later, Bangladesh will take on Pakistan in the same venue.
