Matthew Forde Equals AB de Villiers’ Record with Fastest ODI Fifty for West Indies
A historic moment unfolded at Castle Avenue in Dublin during the second ODI between Ireland and West Indies, as Caribbean all-rounder Matthew Forde etched his name into the record books. Forde smashed a fifty off just 16 balls, equalling the world record for the fastest ODI half-century set by South African legend AB de Villiers.
Coming in to bat at No. 8, the 23-year-old Forde played a blistering knock, scoring 58 runs off just 19 balls. His explosive batting and fearless approach propelled the West Indies to a formidable total of 352/8 in 50 overs.
AB de Villiers originally set the record in 2015 in Johannesburg, also against West Indies, with a 16-ball fifty—considered the fastest ODI fifty in history. Now, Forde joins him at the top of that prestigious list.
Forde’s impact wasn't limited to batting—he also contributed effectively with the ball, underlining his growing reputation as one of the most promising emerging talents in West Indies cricket.
On this historic day, another proud chapter was added to Caribbean cricket. The spotlight now turns to how far this young all-rounder can rise in the coming years.
