South Africa secured a dominant victory in the T20 World Cup in Ahmedabad. Powered by captain Aiden Markram and all-rounder Marco Jansen’s outstanding performances with both bat and ball, the Proteas defeated New Zealand by seven wickets to move significantly closer to the Super Eight stage.

In the crucial match, South Africa opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Although the Kiwi batters began aggressively, they failed to build a substantial total due to regular wickets. New Zealand finished on 175 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Marco Jansen was the standout performer with the ball for South Africa, delivering career-best figures of 4 for 40. Mark Chapman narrowly missed out on a half-century, scoring 48. Finn Allen made 31, while Daryl Mitchell added 32. However, none of them could convert their starts into big innings, preventing New Zealand from gaining the desired momentum.

Chasing a target of 176, South Africa’s batters attacked from the outset. Captain Aiden Markram played a superb innings, scoring an unbeaten 86 off just 44 balls, equalling his highest T20I score and guiding his team towards victory. Quinton de Kock provided a brisk start with 20 off 14 balls, and the pair put together 62 runs in just 28 deliveries for the opening stand.

Ryan Rickelton contributed a quick 21 off 11 balls, while Dewald Brevis added 21 off 17. In the end, David Miller remained unbeaten on 24 off 17 balls and, alongside Markram, calmly completed the chase. South Africa reached 178 for 3 in just 17.1 overs.

With this win, South Africa have taken a significant step toward qualifying for the Super Eight, while New Zealand must bounce back in their upcoming matches to stay alive in the tournament.
