Mahmudullah Riyad Announces Retirement from International T20s

Mahmudullah Riyad has officially announced his retirement from international T20 cricket. Following the ongoing series against India, fans will no longer see one of Bangladesh's greatest finishers in action. If all goes as planned, Mahmudullah's final T20 match will take place in Hyderabad on October 12.

At a press conference before the second match of the India series, Mahmudullah confirmed his decision to retire from the 20-over format. He stated that stepping aside will allow new players to have opportunities as Bangladesh prepares for the 2026 World Cup.

“I will retire from T20s after this series. I had decided this before coming on this tour. I discussed it with my family and informed the coach, captain, selectors, and the board president. I believe this is the right time to step away from this format. I want to focus on the upcoming ODIs, and considering the next T20 World Cup, it would be challenging for me,” he said.

Mahmudullah will not only play in the second T20 match in Delhi but will also participate in the third and final T20 match of the series against India. Thus, his last appearance in this format will be on October 12 in Hyderabad.

The experienced all-rounder has played the most T20 matches for Bangladesh, totaling 139. If he features in the next two matches of the series, his tally will rise to 141. He has scored 2,395 runs at an average of 23.48 and a strike rate of 117.74, including 8 half-centuries.
