Mahmudullah Riyad played his final T20 match for Bangladesh today, marking the end of an era for the experienced cricketer. After taking 1 wicket with the ball, he came to bat and managed to score just 8 runs off 9 balls. From now on, fans will no longer see him in the 20-over format.
Riyad made his debut in 2007 against Kenya in Nairobi and played his last T20 match on the grounds of Hyderabad. Once celebrated as a premier finisher, he bowed out with a modest performance, having conceded 26 runs in 2 overs before claiming the wicket of Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav.
In the series opener in Gwalior, he scored 1 run, while in the second match in Delhi, he hit 3 sixes and made 41 runs off 39 balls. By the end of his career, he played a total of 141 matches, scoring 2,436 runs with 8 half-centuries and taking 40 wickets.
His retirement aims to provide opportunities for new talents ahead of the upcoming World Cup. Although he is stepping away from Test and T20 formats, Riyad will continue to play in One Day Internationals.
