Lahiru Samarakoon Files Complaint to BCB Over Unpaid Dues by Rajshahi

There has been a significant stir in the country’s cricketing circles regarding the non-payment of players by Durbar Rajshahi. While some of the issues have been resolved, Sri Lankan cricketer Lahiru Samarakoon has officially lodged a complaint with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding his unpaid dues.

This season, Durbar Rajshahi has put together a relatively weaker squad for the BPL. With 3 wins and 6 losses from 9 matches, they are placed fifth on the BPL points table. Samarakoon has played only one match for Rajshahi in this edition of the tournament.

Lahiru Samarakoon, the Sri Lankan all-rounder, has formally complained to the BCB about not receiving his payment from his franchise, Durbar Rajshahi, in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League.

According to sources from The Daily Sun, Samarakoon had made several attempts to inform BCB officials via WhatsApp messages regarding the issue. BCB has been receiving similar complaints from various players and is taking the matter seriously.

The payment issue has already sparked controversy within the Rajshahi franchise. Under the leadership of Enamul Haque Bijoy, local players boycotted their first practice session in Chittagong as a protest against unpaid dues. The situation worsened when players threatened to boycott the match against Sylhet Strikers on Friday unless their issues were resolved.

However, just hours before the match, the Rajshahi players received 25% of their outstanding salaries in cash, with an additional 25% paid via check. It was later revealed that some foreign players, including Samarakoon, had not received their payments until they filed complaints. Samarakoon’s contract with Rajshahi for the entire BPL season is worth $15,000.

This payment dispute has added to the tensions surrounding the Rajshahi franchise in the ongoing tournament, with players hoping for a swift resolution to the matter.
