In the second match of the day, Kolkata Knight Riders secured a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Led by Andre Russell's onslaught, Kolkata scored 208 runs after playing a full 20 overs and lost 7 wickets. However, despite Henrikh Klaasen's efforts to ensure a comeback victory for Hyderabad, their pursuit fell short by just 4 runs, losing 7 wickets and managing to score 204 runs.
In the second day of IPL, both innings witnessed a score of 200 runs. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bat. The team lost 4 wickets of their first 5 batters within single-digit runs, with only English opener Phil Salt showing promising innings with 54 runs off 40 balls.
Ramandeep Singh scored 35 runs off 17 balls, while Rinku Singh contributed 23 runs off 15 balls, boosting Kolkata's total runs. However, the most significant role was played by Andre Russell, who scored an unbeaten 64 runs off 25 balls, including 3 fours and 7 sixes, significantly boosting Kolkata's score beyond 200 runs. They finished with a total of 208 runs, losing 7 wickets in the process.
In the second innings, Hyderabad began their chase aggressively, with Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma leading the charge till the end of the powerplay. However, Hyderabad lost their first wicket at a team score of 60 runs. Agarwal departed after scoring 32 runs.
Shortly after, Abhishek Sharma followed suit with 32 runs, while the innings of Rahul Tripathi and Eaden Markram didn't prove to be significant. However, Henrikh Klaasen's remarkable efforts kept Hyderabad's hopes alive until the last over, where they needed 18 runs off 6 balls.
In that over, Klaasen's two sixes, combined with a six from Shahbaz Ahmed, brought 21 runs in total. In the following over, Michal Starch took 3 sixes, while Klaasen took another, adding 26 runs. However, they needed 13 runs in the last over, which they couldn't achieve.
Although Klaasen started the over with a six, he lost two wickets in the next 5 balls, meaning both Klaasen and Shahbaz returned to the pavilion. A single and a dot ball marked the end of the innings. Klaasen scored 63 runs off 29 balls, including 8 sixes, while Shahbaz scored 16 runs off 5 balls, including 2 sixes and a boundary.
Hyderabad's innings concluded at 204 runs, losing 7 wickets.
