Kings Suffer Consecutive Losses as Tamim Iqbal’s Fortune Barishal Claims Back-to-Back Wins
In a thrilling encounter at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram Kings faced their second consecutive defeat at home, as Tamim Iqbal’s Fortune Barishal secured a comfortable 6-wicket victory, strengthening their position in the second spot of the points table.
Though Barishal lost their captain Tamim Iqbal early to a run-out, it was David Malan who took charge and guided his team to victory. Malan’s partnership with Mohammad Nabi, adding 69 runs off 47 balls, proved to be the turning point, helping Barishal reach the target with ease. After seven matches in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Barishal now have 5 wins, sitting firmly in second place.
For Chattogram Kings, the day was marred by another poor performance. After losing the toss and being put to bat, they managed only 39 runs before losing five wickets. Despite a late surge, Chattogram could only post 121 runs, a total that was never enough to challenge Barishal.
Among the eight batters who got out, only two reached double figures. Opener Usman Khan made 19 runs, and captain Mohammad Mithun contributed 35 runs off 34 balls. At the end of the innings, Arafat Sunny remained unbeaten on 27 from 34 balls, hitting just two boundaries.
Chasing a modest target, Fortune Barishal initially struggled during the powerplay, managing only 28 runs for the loss of two wickets. Tamim Iqbal was unfortunately run out for 8 runs off 14 balls, a dismissal that left him visibly frustrated. Following his departure, Towhid Hridoy could only manage 1 run.
Barishal’s middle order also faltered, with experienced players like Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad failing to make a significant impact. Mushfiqur was dismissed for 11 runs off 10 balls, while Mahmudullah was sent back for 16 runs by Chattogram pacer Khaled Ahmed.
At 53 for 4, David Malan remained the backbone of the innings. He found an able partner in Mohammad Nabi, and together they steered Barishal towards victory. Malan brought up his half-century in 36 balls and remained unbeaten at 56 runs, marking his 6th fifty in the BPL. Nabi contributed 26 runs from 21 balls, and the pair led Barishal to a 6-wicket win with 19 balls to spare.
