Khushdil Shah Leaves BPL Ahead of Playoffs to Join Pakistan Camp
In a surprising turn of events, Khushdil Shah, the standout performer for Rangpur Riders in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), has left the tournament before the playoffs. The Pakistani all-rounder, who was pivotal in helping Rangpur secure a playoff spot, has been called back to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy training camp.
Khushdil played a key role in the Riders' success, contributing with both bat and ball. His crucial breakthroughs with the ball and match-winning cameos with the bat were integral to the team's progress. However, Rangpur fans were left disappointed as he departed for international duties. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has requested his return for the preparation of the Champions Trophy.
Rangpur Riders confirmed his departure in a heartfelt Facebook post, which read: “Thank you, Rider Khushdil Shah. 298 runs, 17 wickets; your magic will be remembered! Go shine for Pakistan now!”
Khushdil had a stellar campaign in this year’s BPL, featuring in 10 matches. He amassed 298 runs at a strike rate of 175.29, including two half-centuries, making him one of the tournament's top performers. Additionally, he contributed with the ball, taking 17 wickets at an economical rate of 6.03, showcasing his all-round abilities.
With 16 points from 10 matches, Rangpur Riders had already secured a spot in the playoffs. They remain in contention to finish in the top two and will need to win one of their final two matches to ensure a direct entry into the First Qualifier. However, Khushdil's departure leaves a gap in their squad just ahead of the crucial stages of the competition.
