Khulna Tigers Dominates Dhaka Capitals in BPL 2025, Thisara Perera’s Century in Vain
Khulna Tigers are off to a flying start in the 2025 Bangladesh Premier League, excelling in all departments—batting, bowling, and fielding. The team registered another dominant victory over Dhaka Capitals in the final match of the first phase in Dhaka, securing back-to-back wins. Dhaka, on the other hand, faced their third consecutive loss, with Thisara Perera’s heroic century ultimately going in vain.
In the second match of the day at Mirpur, Khulna Tigers won by 20 runs after setting a target of 174 runs. Khulna posted 173/8 in their 20 overs, and Dhaka could only manage 153 runs in response. Perera’s outstanding century came in a losing cause, as he completed his 100 in the final ball of the innings with a boundary.
Khulna got off to a solid start with openers Mohammad Naim Sheikh and William Boseystor putting together a 49-run partnership in just 4.5 overs. However, once that partnership was broken, the batting lineup faltered. Naim Sheikh scored 30 off 17 balls before getting out. Afif Hossain (1), Ibrahim Zadran (5), and captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz (8) all fell cheaply, and Pakistan’s Mohammad Nawaz also contributed just 5 runs. William Boseystor’s 26 added to the growing pressure as Khulna found themselves at 93/6.
In the lower order, Mahidul Islam Ankon played a vital knock of 32 from 22 balls, and Ziaur Rahman (22) and Abu Haidar Rony (21) provided useful contributions. This late surge helped Khulna reach 173 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
In response, Dhaka’s powerful batting line-up was left reeling under the onslaught of Khulna’s bowlers, especially Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Abu Haidar Rony. Miraz made an immediate impact in the third over, taking the wickets of Liton Das (2) and Stephen Eskinazi (golden duck) on consecutive balls. Shahadat Hossain Dipu also failed to make an impact, and in Rony’s next over, Tanjid Tamim (19) and Dipu (3) were dismissed. By the end of the powerplay, Dhaka had lost 4 wickets and were stranded at just 31 runs.
At 41/6 in 9.3 overs, Dhaka seemed on the brink of a collapse. However, Thissara Perera and Chaturanga de Silva fought back with a determined seventh-wicket partnership. Perera, though starting slowly, grew into the innings and started playing aggressively. He was well-supported by de Silva, who provided excellent company throughout the partnership.
Perera was dropped twice by Boseystor, once at 69 and again at 85, but he made Dhaka’s resistance count, batting through to score an incredible century off 60 balls. The pair’s partnership contributed 112 runs, but despite their efforts, it wasn’t enough as Dhaka fell short, managing just 153 runs.
Khulna Tigers emerged victorious, winning by 20 runs, while Thissara Perera’s valiant century (100 not out) stood as a lone shining effort in a losing cause for Dhaka.
