During his unbeaten innings of 182 against New Zealand in Galle, Kamindu Mendis shattered multiple records, etching his name in cricket history. He became the fastest Asian batter to reach 1,000 Test runs, matching the legendary Don Bradman’s record for the joint-fastest milestone.

Mendis has made a dazzling start to his Test career, achieving this feat in just his eighth match. With five centuries in his eight-Test career, he has reached the 1,000-run mark in just 13 innings.

By doing so, Mendis joins the record books alongside Bradman, as he becomes the second-fastest player to score 1,000 Test runs. Everton Weekes and Herbert Sutcliffe achieved this milestone in 12 innings.

Among Asian batters, Mendis is now the fastest in the last 75 years, surpassing Vinod Kambli, who reached 1,000 runs in 14 innings. This remarkable achievement highlights Mendis's burgeoning talent and promises a bright future in international cricket.
