India secured their place in the final of the Asian Games cricket event with a commanding 124-run victory over Sri Lanka in the second semifinal. At the Korogi Sports Park in Nishin, Japan, Ishan Kishan’s unbeaten 80 and a collective bowling masterclass from India restricted Sri Lanka to just 45 runs. With this victory, India will face arch-rivals Pakistan in the gold medal clash.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka elected to bowl first. India suffered an early setback as Abhishek Sharma (7) and Sanju Samson (7) were dismissed cheaply. However, young opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi steadied the innings with a blistering 38 off 21 balls.

While wickets kept falling at regular intervals at one end, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan held firm at the other. Captain Shreyas Iyer (13), Axar Patel (8), Tilak Varma (2) and Shivam Dube (3) all departed quickly, but Kishan’s destructive unbeaten 80 off 46 balls helped India post a competitive 169 for 7 in 20 overs.

Kishan’s innings featured four boundaries and five sixes. For Sri Lanka, Tharindu Ratnayake and Sahan Arachchige picked up two wickets apiece.

Chasing 170 for victory, Sri Lanka’s batting lineup completely collapsed against India’s pace and spin attack. Jasprit Bumrah struck twice in his very first over, dismissing both Sri Lankan openers. Caught in a run-out trap and under relentless pressure from the Indian bowlers, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 45 runs. Nuwanidu Fernando was their top scorer with 15 runs, while nine Sri Lankan batters failed to reach double figures.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel and part-time spinner Abhishek Sharma claimed two wickets each, while Washington Sundar took one wicket.

India and Pakistan will face each other in the mega final for the gold medal on Saturday. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will take on Bangladesh in the bronze medal match.
