Defending champions India registered their second consecutive victory in the T20 World Cup, defeating Namibia by 93 runs in New Delhi to further strengthen their position at the top of Group A.
Batting first, India posted 209-9 in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Ishan Kishan smashed a blistering 61 off just 24 deliveries, while Hardik Pandya contributed 52. India raced to 86-1 in the powerplay — the highest of the tournament so far. Namibia’s spinner Gerhard Erasmus claimed 4-20 in four overs to reduce India to 124-4 in 11.5 overs, but an 81-run partnership between Pandya and Shivam Dube (23) propelled the hosts to a commanding total. Pandya’s knock included four sixes and four fours.
Chasing 210, Namibia made a promising start, reaching 67-1 in seven overs and later 86-2. However, Varun Chakravarthy’s spell turned the game in India’s favour. The spinner picked up 3-7 in two overs, including the wicket of top-scorer Louren Steenkamp (29). Namibia were eventually bowled out for 116. Pandya also impressed with the ball, taking 2-21 in his four overs and sealing the victory by trapping Ben Shikongo lbw.
With two wins from two matches, India sit comfortably at the top of Group A and are well placed to qualify for the Super Eight stage. They will next face arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday in what promises to be the most high-profile clash of the tournament.
