Following a clean sweep in the Test series, Bangladesh is set to face India in the first match of a three-match T20 series today at the newly inaugurated Srimanth Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. This venue presents a unique challenge, as both teams are unfamiliar with the conditions. The stadium, with a capacity of 33,000 spectators, is hosting its first international match.
Indian captain Surya Kumar Yadav won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Bangladesh welcomes back all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz to their T20 squad. Parvez Hossain Emon has edged ahead of Tanzid Hasan Tamim in the race for a spot in the XI, especially given that Tamim has struggled recently, scoring three ducks in his last four T20 matches.
While Bangladesh holds an experience advantage, Indian batsmen may find themselves challenged by Bangladesh's leg-spinner Rishad Hossain.
In terms of recent performance, Bangladesh has a balanced record in international T20s this year, with nine wins and nine losses, including victories against Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, Nepal, and the USA. In contrast, India has been in superb form, winning 18 of their 19 T20 matches in 2024 (including two Super Over victories) and remains unbeaten in their last seven matches in this format.
