At the end of the first day in Chattogram, South Africa is on track for a big score, having already amassed 307 runs for just 2 wickets. It is easy to predict that the Proteas will build a mountain of runs on this batting paradise at Sagarika. However, Bangladesh's head coach, Phil Simmons, is not discouraged by the opponent's large total. He draws confidence from the recent Pakistan-England match.

The head coach remains optimistic about winning this Test. He referenced the recent match where Pakistan scored over 500 runs in the first innings but still lost by an innings against England, saying:

"At this moment, the team's focus is on coming back tomorrow morning and trying to take wickets quickly to put them in a position to bowl. When we bat… we’ve seen in Test matches, in Pakistan, one team scored 500, and the other team scored 800, and the result was different there as well."

When asked if he is disappointed with South Africa's big total, Simmons replied, "I can’t say I’m disappointed. As far as we’re concerned, it was an excellent batting wicket. I believe the bowlers worked hard and bowled well. They missed a few opportunities. If they had capitalized, it could have been different; it could have been four or five wickets. But you know, it was a tough day. I’ve seen tough days on the other side of the coin since I’ve been here. So, I won’t say I’m disappointed."
