ICC T20 Team of the Year 2024 Announced, No Bangladeshi Players Included

The ICC has announced the T20 Team of the Year for 2024, and unsurprisingly, players from India dominate the list in a World Cup year. Four Indian players have made it to the team, the highest from any country. Additionally, one player each from Australia, England, Pakistan, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Zimbabwe has been included. Unfortunately, no players from Bangladesh have been selected for the squad.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been named as an opener in the team. In 11 matches, he scored 378 runs at an average of 42 and a strike rate of over 160. The World Cup-winning captain also hit three half-centuries in the tournament, including a brilliant 92 against Australia in the Super Eight. Rohit’s opening partner is Australia’s Travis Head, who scored 539 runs in 15 matches with a remarkable strike rate of 178.47, including four half-centuries.

At No. 3 is England’s Phil Salt, who scored 467 runs in 17 matches at an average of nearly 39 and a strike rate of 164.43. Ranked No. 2 in the T20 batting rankings, Salt also smashed a century in 2024. Pakistan’s Babar Azam occupies the No. 4 position with 738 runs in 24 matches, including six half-centuries, with a top score of 75.

West Indian wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran comes in next. Pooran scored 464 runs in 21 matches at a strike rate of 142, including a scintillating 98 off 53 balls against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup. Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza has been a surprise inclusion in the team. He scored 573 runs in 24 matches, with a top score of 133, and also claimed 24 wickets, including a best of 5 for 18.

At No. 7 is India’s Hardik Pandya, who had a stellar T20 World Cup. In 17 matches, Pandya scored 352 runs and picked up 16 wickets. During the World Cup, he contributed 144 runs and 11 wickets. Next in the lineup is Afghanistan’s leg-spinner Rashid Khan, who claimed 31 wickets in 14 matches, with his best figures being 4 for 14.

Following him is Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, who picked up 38 wickets and scored 179 runs in 20 matches. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has also been included, taking 15 wickets in just 8 matches with an exceptional average of 8.26. India’s Arshdeep Singh completes the lineup, with 36 wickets in 18 matches, including best figures of 4 for 9.
