ICC Player of the Month for August 2024 revealed

In August 2024, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalage has been named the ICC Player of the Month, and the best female player of the month is also from Sri Lanka, Harshitha Madavi. This is the first time both players have received this accolade.

On Monday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the names of the best male and female cricketers for the month of August in separate statements. For the first time, cricketers from the same country have been selected as the top players in both the men’s and women’s categories for the same month. Previously, in June, Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana achieved this feat.

Sri Lanka's young spinner Dunith Wellalage played a crucial role in winning the series against India and has now been honored with the ICC award. In the series against India, Wellalage scored 108 runs with the bat and took seven wickets, earning him the Player of the Month award.

Top-order batter Harshitha Madavi outperformed the Irish duo Orla Prendergast and Gaby Lewis to be named the best female player of August. This is Sri Lanka’s third women's award in 2024, with Athapaththu winning the award in May and July.
