Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been nominated for the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Player of the Month for June. The Afghan star opener is joined on the list by India's World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah.
The ICC has announced the names of the male and female cricketers in the running for the Player of the Month for June. Among the contenders are Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah, with one of them set to be awarded the ICC Player of the Month title. The wait is now on to see who will become the 'Player of the Month.'
Afghanistan's opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored the highest number of runs in the recently concluded ninth T20 World Cup, taking his team to the semifinals. He amassed 281 runs in 8 innings, including three half-centuries, with a batting average of 35.12 and a strike rate of 124.33.
Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the tournament's best player for his exceptional bowling throughout the competition, including the final. He took 15 wickets in 8 matches, boasting the best average among bowlers who took at least 10 wickets in a single World Cup. He bowled 29.4 overs with an economy rate of just 4.17 runs per over. Bumrah claimed three wickets in an innings twice and took two wickets in four matches. Batsmen from different teams managed to hit only 12 fours and 2 sixes off his bowling. His highest run concession in a match was 29, against Australia.
India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup undefeated in the history of the tournament’s nine editions. At 37 years and 60 days, captain Rohit Sharma led his team to the title, making him the oldest captain to achieve this feat. After the victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup, Rohit announced his retirement from T20 cricket during the post-match press conference. In this World Cup, Rohit scored the second-highest number of runs, totaling 257 runs at a strike rate of 156.70 despite batting in comparatively tough conditions.
