ICC Announces 2024 Test Team of the Year, No Bangladeshi Players Included

The ICC has announced the Test Team of the Year for 2024, and there are no players from Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Africa, or the West Indies. Australia’s Pat Cummins has been named the captain of the Test XI.

The team features a total of four players from England, three from India, two from New Zealand, and one each from Australia and Sri Lanka. There are no players from World Test Championship finalists South Africa.

Players of the Year:

Yashasvi Jaiswal (India)

Yashasvi Jaiswal established himself as a top Indian Test opener in 2024. After a challenging series against South Africa, he made a remarkable comeback in the home series against England, amassing 712 runs, including two double centuries and three fifties, proving his dominance. Jaiswal continued his strong form with four innings against Bangladesh, scoring three half-centuries. Although his performance was not as outstanding against New Zealand, he remained one of the standout performers. He scored 391 runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, including a magnificent 161 runs in Perth after a duck in the first innings. Jaiswal finished 2024 with 1,478 runs at an average of 54.74, just behind England's Joe Root.

Ben Duckett (England)

Ben Duckett played a crucial role in England's Test success in 2024. His aggressive batting, in collaboration with Jack Crawley, set the foundation for massive runs for England. Duckett began the year with a 343-run series in India, including a 153 in Rajkot. He then scored 178 and 186 runs in home series against West Indies and Sri Lanka, respectively. Duckett continued his strong form with 262 runs in Pakistan and 180 runs in New Zealand, finishing the year with 1,149 runs at an average of 37.06, the third-highest behind Joe Root and India's Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Kane Williamson (New Zealand)

Despite injury issues, Kane Williamson remained one of the best Test batsmen in the world in 2024. He scored centuries in both innings against South Africa at the beginning of the year and another century in Hamilton. Though his form dipped during the Australia tour, he bounced back with 138 runs in Sri Lanka and 395 runs in the home series against England. Williamson finished 2024 with 1,013 runs at an average of 59.58, making him the sixth-highest run-scorer of the year.

Joe Root (England)

Joe Root further solidified his position as one of the strongest Test batsmen in 2024. After a slow start in the first three Tests against India, where he struggled, he scored 122 and 84 runs in the final two Tests. He later excelled against West Indies and Sri Lanka. During England's Pakistan tour, Root was in top form, scoring 262 runs. He finished 2024 with 1,556 runs at an average of 55.57, making him the fifth-highest run-scorer in Test cricket history.

Harry Brook (England)

Harry Brook emerged as England's next batting superstar in 2024. He scored an outstanding century in the home series against West Indies and was consistent in the series against Pakistan and New Zealand, amassing 1,100 runs.

Kamindu Mendis (Sri Lanka)

Kamindu Mendis made a stellar return to Test cricket in 2024, scoring centuries in both innings during Sri Lanka's tour of Bangladesh, accumulating 367 runs. Mendis finished the year with 1,049 runs at an average of 74.92, the fifth-highest run-scorer.

Jamie Smith (Wicketkeeper, England)

Jamie Smith made his mark as England's first-choice wicketkeeper in 2024, scoring 637 runs and contributing to 32 dismissals.

Ravindra Jadeja (India)

Ravindra Jadeja showcased exceptional all-round performance in 2024, contributing both with bat and ball. He scored 527 runs and took 48 wickets, establishing himself as one of India's most valuable players.

Pat Cummins (Captain, Australia)

Pat Cummins provided exceptional leadership as Australia’s captain in 2024, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. He collected 37 wickets and scored 306 runs, solidifying his role as the best Test captain of the year.

Matt Henry (New Zealand)

Matt Henry took 48 wickets in 2024, finishing as the fourth-highest wicket-taker of the year.

Jasprit Bumrah (India)

Jasprit Bumrah was the top wicket-taker in 2024 with 71 wickets at an average of 14.92, earning him recognition as one of the top bowlers of the year.
