The Chittagong Kings made headlines in the BPL by signing star players, including Shakib Al Hasan. However, the team found itself in trouble as some of these players ultimately did not join. To make matters worse, they lost their opening match of the tournament. But the Kings bounced back with a spectacular win against the indomitable Rajshahi team.
The Kings didn't stop at assembling a star-studded player roster—they brought in a foreign host and a mentor to add to the team's charm. Former Pakistan cricket star Shahid Afridi serves as the team’s mentor. Speaking at the post-match press conference, team representative Arafat Sunny shared Afridi's impact:
“As our mentor, he brings extensive experience from playing in many franchise leagues. He has been sharing invaluable insights with us. Whatever information we need to play good cricket, he has been providing it all.”
Sunny expressed his happiness after securing the team’s first win in the BPL:
“It feels great to get our first win. Everyone in the team gave their best effort. Despite losing early wickets, Usman and Clarke's batting gave us a good score, which allowed us to win the match.”
In the match against Rajshahi, Sunny delivered an impressive bowling performance, taking 3 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs. Reflecting on his performance, he said:
“Alhamdulillah. I was able to execute my plans and contribute to the team. I gave my best. Alhamdulillah.”
Sunny also spoke about Usman Khan, who scored the first century of this year’s BPL:
“Having a big score reduces the pressure on bowlers. Rajshahi had a good start, but in T20s, the game often hinges on the first six overs. We stuck to our process and didn’t panic. Chasing 200 runs requires about 12 runs per over, which isn’t easy. While they managed to score in 1-2 overs, we stayed calm. If we could take a couple of wickets in the middle overs, the pressure would be on them.”
This win not only boosted the team’s morale but also showcased how impactful mentorship and teamwork can be in turning the tide in a competitive tournament like the BPL.
