Hathurusingha Speaks on His Future Amidst Bangladesh's Political Turmoil

Chandika Hathurusingha, who began his second stint as Bangladesh's head coach in 2023 for a two-year term, has addressed concerns about his future amid the ongoing political instability in Bangladesh. With several top officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) resigning and speculation that Hathurusingha might also be removed from his position, he has shared his perspective on the situation.

Currently, the Bangladesh cricket team is in Pakistan preparing for their Test series. Speaking to the media before the match, Hathurusingha responded to questions about his future in light of the political unrest:

"I actually do not know what is happening there," Hathurusingha said. "Regarding my future, I have signed a contract. I will continue working for the duration of my term. If there are changes in the board and someone new comes in and wants to replace me, I have no problem with that. If they are happy with me, then I am also happy to continue working."

Expressing his condolences for those affected by recent violence and student protests in Bangladesh, Hathurusingha stated, "My prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones. It has been a difficult situation. I hope that the concerns of the students will be addressed and that the country’s situation will return to normal. It has been a very tough time."

When asked if the team’s performance could provide some joy to the people of Bangladesh, Hathurusingha responded positively, "Absolutely. We all know that sports have a powerful ability to unite people. It provides a chance to offer hope. If we can perform well here, we can bring happiness to cricket fans in both Pakistan and Bangladesh."

Hathurusingha’s contract is set to run until the Champions Trophy next year, but he remains open to accepting any changes that the board may decide. For now, the cricketing world waits to see how the situation unfolds.
