Hasan Mahmud Explains His Wicket Celebration
Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud had a dream start in Chennai against India, taking the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill in the first session. He continued to put pressure on the batters in the second session, adding Rishabh Pant to his list of scalps, just when Pant was settling in at the crease.
In the early stages of his career, Hasan Mahmud wasn’t known for celebrating his wickets. However, after dismissing Rohit, Virat, and others, he was seen celebrating on the field today. Following the match, this change in behavior was brought up during the press conference.
In response, Hasan said, "It wasn’t really a celebration. It was just a natural reaction from my side, knowing that I was able to send a batter back. That’s all it was."
When asked which wicket he enjoyed the most, Hasan didn’t name anyone specifically, replying, "Honestly, I just tried to give my best. I was in my zone. It would have been great to take 10 wickets, but there’s still work to do."
Bangladesh’s bowlers were exceptional in the first two sessions against India, reducing them to 144 for 6. At that point, it seemed like the visitors would wrap up the Indian innings for a low score. However, Jadeja and Ashwin’s batting in the third session prevented that from happening.
When asked about his target for India’s total going into Day 2, Hasan Mahmud responded, "I think it would be good for us if we can bowl them out before 400. The wicket has become much easier for batting now. We are trying to maintain pressure with our bowling. Hopefully, we can do that tomorrow, In Sha Allah."
Regarding Bangladesh’s current position in the game, Hasan said, "From the start, our bowlers tried to perform well. The wicket has become more favorable for batting, and we are trying to limit boundaries and keep the run rate down. We had the momentum earlier, but it has shifted now. In cricket, anything can happen, but we will aim to do something positive."
Bangladesh’s bowlers couldn’t take any wickets in the third session. When asked whether it was due to losing rhythm or changes in the pitch behavior, Hasan explained, "I think our bowling could have been a bit more economical and structured. We’re trying to bowl in good areas to put pressure on them. Right now, the momentum is with them, but if we try, I believe we can bowl them out before 400, In Sha Allah."
