In a dramatic contest in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), Gulshan Sports Club defeated Brothers Union Limited by 2 wickets. Chasing a target of 290 runs set by Brothers Union, Gulshan reached the target with 9 balls to spare, losing 8 wickets in the process.
At the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium, Brothers Union, having lost the toss, batted first. They lost Mahfizur Rahman Robin for just 12 runs at the start, but the second-wicket partnership between Bishal Chowdhury and Mizanur Rahman proved vital. The pair put on a 126-run stand before Mizanur was dismissed after scoring a half-century. Bishal was dismissed for 83 runs from 75 balls, hitting 9 fours and 4 sixes, off the bowling of Nihaduzzaman.
Nihaduzzaman also claimed the wicket of Bishal, while Aich Mollah added 65 runs and Alok Kapali scored 31. Brothers Union were all out for 290 runs in 50 overs. For Gulshan, Nihaduzzaman and Asaduzzaman Pail each took three wickets.
In reply, Gulshan Sports Club faced regular setbacks, losing wickets at crucial moments. Jawad Abrar was dismissed for 30, Azizul Hakim Tamim for 11, and Liton Kumar Das for 33. At the 100-run mark, Gulshan found themselves 5 wickets down.
Naim Islam and Mohammad Elias then put up a determined partnership. Naim was dismissed for 50 runs after a 99-run partnership. Elias played an important knock of 53 runs. Towards the end, Farhad Reza and Mehedi Hasan accelerated the scoring rate. Farhad remained unbeaten on 47 runs from 36 balls, while Mehedi made an invaluable 32 runs off 18 balls. Gulshan crossed the target in 48.3 overs, losing 8 wickets.
For Brothers Union, Sohag Gazi was the standout bowler, claiming four wickets, while Shafiul Islam took two wickets.
