Flashback: What happened on Bangladesh's last Test tour of India?
The last time Bangladesh toured India for a Test series was in 2019, when Virat Kohli and his team comfortably whitewashed the Tigers 2-0. Now, after a gap of five years, Bangladesh is set to return to India for their ninth series against the host nation. This tour comes on the back of a remarkable performance where Bangladesh stunned Pakistan by whitewashing them on their own turf. The Tigers are now hoping to secure their first-ever Test victory against India.
India has dominated Bangladesh in Test cricket, with Bangladesh failing to secure a win against India in the past 24 years. In this period, Bangladesh has only managed two draws out of 13 Tests played against India, with India winning the remaining 11. This upcoming series offers a new opportunity for Bangladesh, led by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, to break their winless streak and make a mark, especially after their recent confidence-boosting whitewash of Pakistan in Rawalpindi.
In their previous tour of India in 2019, Bangladesh faced a tough challenge. India’s pace attack excelled, leading to innings victories in both Tests. In the first Test in Indore, India defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 130 runs. The second Test, played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, saw India win by an innings and 46 runs in a pink ball Test.
This time, alongside the Test series, Bangladesh will also compete in a T20I series. The two-Test series will kick off at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 19, with the second Test scheduled to take place at Green Park in Kanpur starting September 27.
As Bangladesh prepares for this series under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto, all eyes will be on whether they can deliver an impressive performance in India. The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, is not underestimating the challenge and is expected to approach the series with seriousness and determination.
