In a do-or-die clash, Bangladesh didn’t fall—they stood tall. Against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup, young opener Tanzid Tamim set the tone with the bat, but it was left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed who made the more dramatic start with the ball. Playing his 39th international, Nasum dismissed Sediqullah Atal with the very first delivery of the innings, swinging the momentum firmly in Bangladesh’s favor. From there, the Tigers took control, and later, Nasum dedicated his performance to the entire team.

Speaking to the media a day after the victory, Nasum said, “This performance is for my team. We’ve all been working very hard. Alhamdulillah, this win belongs to our team.”

He added, “Honestly, I’m always ready to play. Whenever I get an opportunity, I try to give my best. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But thanks to Allah, I was able to perform like this today.”

Nasum also explained his unique celebration after taking a wicket, “There is only one Allah. We must always show gratitude to Him. That’s why I raised my hands in thanks.”

Highlighting the team’s mindset, he said, “We are always mentally ready. No matter who plays, everyone tries to give their best.”

For his outstanding bowling display against Afghanistan, Nasum was named Player of the Match. His accurate spin tore through the Afghan top order, keeping Bangladesh’s hopes of reaching the Super Four alive. If the Tigers do make it to the next stage, fans will surely pin added hopes and expectations on Nasum Ahmed—who is fast emerging as a new pillar of confidence in Bangladesh’s journey.
