Farewell to First-Class Cricket: Special Honor for Farhad Hossain from BCB
Bangladeshi cricketer Farhad Hossain, born in Rajshahi, has bid farewell to first-class cricket. Approaching the age of 38, Farhad concluded his 161-match first-class career with a match against Rangpur Division at his home ground.
On Tuesday, at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi, Farhad Hossain took to the field for the last time in first-class cricket. However, his team couldn’t end on a high note, as Rangpur won by 101 runs. Farhad scored 26 runs in the first innings and 9 runs in the second.
Farhad began his first-class journey at Rajshahi Stadium in 2005 and has played 161 matches since. Over 275 innings, he amassed 9,065 runs with an average of 35.97, including 18 centuries and 46 half-centuries.
With the ball, Farhad, an off-break bowler, claimed 165 wickets in first-class cricket, taking five wickets in an innings on three occasions.
In addition to his first-class career, he played 135 List-A matches and 35 recognized T20 games, scoring 3,304 and 376 runs, respectively.
In his farewell ceremony, Farhad Hossain was presented with a Rajshahi Division jersey and a crest as mementos. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wrote on social media:
“After playing 161 matches and scoring over 9,000 runs, experienced Rajshahi Division batsman Farhad Hossain has retired from first-class cricket. Hossain, who debuted in 2005, played his final first-class match in the ongoing Madhumati Bank National Cricket League in Rajshahi against Rangpur Division. After the match, he was presented with a signed Rajshahi Division jersey and a commemorative crest from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), handed over by former national team opener and BCB national selection panel member Hannan Sarkar. Former Bangladesh and Rajshahi captain Khaled Mashud and match referee and former national player Ehsanul Haque were also present at the farewell ceremony.”
