England announces Test squad for India series opener, Jamie Overton returns

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced a 14-member squad for the first Test of the upcoming series against India. The opening match of the five-match Test series will begin on 20 June 2025 at Headingley.

Surrey's pace-bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton has been included in the squad. He played his only Test at the same venue—Headingley—against New Zealand in 2022. However, his availability is still under observation by the England medical team after suffering a fractured right little finger during a recent ODI against the West Indies.

Also returning to the squad are Durham’s Brydon Carse and Warwickshire’s Jacob Bethell and Chris Woakes, all of whom last featured in the December 2024 Test tour of New Zealand.

Surrey pacer Gus Atkinson misses out due to a hamstring injury sustained during the recent Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge.

2–6 July: 2nd Test, Edgbaston
