In Pakistan’s second innings, Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto played a crucial role beyond that of the bowlers. By making two key bowling changes, he provided his team with crucial breakthroughs on both occasions. In the first session of the day, Shanto introduced Nahid Rana into the attack, who took 3 wickets. In the subsequent session, Shanto replaced Nahid with Hasan Mahmud, who was also extraordinarily successful, breaking Mohammad Rizwan’s resistance and taking two wickets in consecutive balls. With the combined efforts of Hasan and Nahid, Pakistan was dismissed for 172 runs. While Hasan completed his five-wicket haul, Nahid was satisfied with 4 wickets.
Starting with a 12-run lead from the first innings, Pakistan could only manage 172 runs in their second innings. All 10 of Pakistan's lost wickets in the second innings fell to the pacers. Hasan Mahmud achieved his first five-wicket haul, Nahid Rana took 4 wickets, and Taskin Ahmed claimed 1. This left Bangladesh with a modest target of 185 runs to win the match and secure a series whitewash. Nazmul Hossain Shanto's team is on the brink of making history by winning their first-ever Test series against Pakistan.
Before lunch, the partnership between Rizwan and Salman was putting pressure on Bangladesh. With Pakistan having lost 6 wickets for 81 runs and the seventh-wicket partnership taking the team to 136 runs, Hasan Mahmud intervened, removing Pakistan's biggest concern. Rizwan, who was on 43 runs, was caught by Litton Das off Hasan’s delivery.
Hasan Mahmud did not stop at dismissing Rizwan; on the very next ball, he induced a catch to Shanto at first slip from the new batter Mohammad Ali. Although a hat-trick opportunity was missed when Aga Salman resisted Hasan in the next over, Nahid Rana did not let Abrar prolong the innings. Shanto’s reliable hands in the first slip again proved crucial as Pakistan’s batters were left helpless against the pace attack. Pakistan was eventually dismissed for 172 runs after a struggle.
Pakistan lost their 9th wicket at 145 runs. Salman Aga was still at the crease with the last wicket partnership. Both pacers, Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana, were each one wicket away from a five-wicket haul. Hasan completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Mir Hamza, achieving this milestone in just his 3rd Test match. Salman Aga, who had held one end for a long time, increased the scoring rate towards the end, allowing Pakistan to reach 172 runs in their second innings. Salman Aga remained unbeaten on 47.
Hasan Mahmud, who enjoyed a five-wicket haul, gave away 43 runs in 10.4 overs. In contrast, Nahid Rana took 4 wickets for 44 runs in 11 overs. The remaining wicket was also claimed by a pacer, taken by Taskin Ahmed at the start of the morning session.
