Royal Challengers Bengaluru clinched victory in the final stages of the match, thanks to Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror. Initially, Punjab Kings took to the bat, losing 6 wickets and scoring 176 runs in the designated 20 overs. In response, Bengaluru, led by Virat Kohli's innings and a courageous batting partnership from Karthik and Lomror towards the end, secured a victory with 4 balls remaining and 4 wickets in hand.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru had a target of 177 runs. Virat Kohli, opening the innings, took the responsibility. However, the other two batters in the top order failed today. Captain Faf du Plessis and Cameron Green both scored 3 runs each.
Nevertheless, Kohli kept the momentum going. He was leading the charge alongside Rajat Patidar. However, Patidar couldn't make significant runs and scored 18 runs off 18 balls. Bengaluru lost 3 wickets for 86 runs.
Glenn Maxwell remained unsuccessful again. He was bowled by Harpreet Brar after scoring 3 runs. It seemed like trouble was brewing. Anuj Rawat joined Kohli in batting.
When the team needed 59 runs, Kohli initiated the chase aggressively against Harshal Patel's over, hitting two boundaries. However, Kohli lost his wicket in the same over. Despite scoring 77 runs off 49 balls, Bengaluru was in a precarious situation.
In the next over after Sam Curran's, Anuj Rawat also lost his wicket. Losing a wicket when runs were needed only added to Bengaluru's woes. However, Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror came together to ease Bengaluru's path to victory. With a boundary each in the final over, they secured victory by 10 runs.
The unbeaten duo, Karthik with 28 runs off 10 balls and Lomror with 17 runs off 8 balls, emerged as the heroes for Bengaluru.
Earlier, losing the toss, Punjab Kings opted to bat first. Opener Mayank Agarwal couldn't perform well today. However, the captain contributed with the bat. Playing a captain's knock, Shikhar Dhawan held the innings. Prabhsimran Singh, as an impact player, scored 25 runs off 17 balls. Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran tried to add some runs, but their innings couldn't make a significant impact. Livingstone scored 17 runs off 13 balls, while Curran scored 23 runs off 17 balls. When Karan came to bat, the team had lost 5 wickets for 150 runs in the 18th over. With Shashank Singh at the other end, Karan played an unbeaten innings of 21 runs off 8 balls. Punjab Kings managed to score 176 runs, losing 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell took 2 wickets each.
