Dhaka Capitals Aim to Qualify by Finishing in Top Three or Four, Says Saifuddin
Mohammad Saifuddin is representing Dhaka Capitals in this year’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). While his individual performances have been decent, the team has struggled collectively. Dhaka have played four matches so far and lost three of them.
Speaking at a press conference in Sylhet on Tuesday, Saifuddin said the team is focusing on improving their collective performance and making a comeback in the tournament.
“Since we haven’t been able to perform well as a team, our discussions are mainly about how we can bounce back and finish in the top three or four,” Saifuddin said.
Saifuddin has scored runs with the bat in one BPL match this season. However, he said he is ready to bat even for the last two deliveries if the team combination demands it.
“If the team combination requires me to bat even for the final two balls, I am prepared for that. There are many plans involved here, including left-right combinations. As half of the tournament is still remaining, Inshallah, I hope opportunities will come in the upcoming matches,” he added.
Saifuddin also stressed the importance of sporting wickets in the BPL.
“We definitely want sporting wickets. Since ICC events are usually batting-friendly, we also want to develop the mindset of chasing 200–210 runs. At the same time, there should be opportunities to defend totals of 170–180 as well,” he said.
According to Saifuddin, Dhaka Capitals have lost most of their matches by narrow margins. While the situation is frustrating, he believes the team still has a chance to turn things around.
“We still definitely have a chance. If you look at it, we have played good cricket throughout the tournament; perhaps luck hasn’t been on our side. Except for the match against Chattogram, we lost the other three matches by very close margins. It’s disappointing, but there is still an opportunity to come back,” Saifuddin said.
