Debut Brilliance, Rishad Named HobartBest in Big Bash
A Bangladeshi spinner has made a striking impression on foreign soil in his very first season. Playing in Australia’s Big Bash League for the first time, Rishad Hossain clinched the top individual honour, elevating himself to a new level.
For the 2025–26 season, Rishad has been named Hobart Hurricanes’ Player of the Season by Cricket Tasmania. The franchise confirmed the announcement on Wednesday (April 1) through its social media platforms. The award was presented as part of Tasmania’s annual prize-giving ceremony.
This was Rishad’s maiden campaign in the Big Bash. From the outset, he drew attention with his control and effective bowling. Finishing the season with 15 wickets, the leg-spinner emerged as the team’s leading wicket-taker. He maintained a bowling average of 20.86 and an economy rate of 7.82—figures considered highly effective in the T20 format, underlining his consistency throughout the tournament.
In the race for the award, Rishad competed with Nathan Ellis, Nikhil Chaudhary, and Chris Jordan. Ellis claimed 14 wickets, Nikhil scored over 300 runs with the bat, while Jordan contributed with crucial spells at key moments. However, Rishad stood out in terms of consistency and overall impact on matches, ultimately securing the top honour.
