Cricket South Africa has announced a strong squad for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies. Matthew Breetzke has received his first call-up to the squad, while Marco Jansen has been rested by the Proteas team management. Breetzke is expected to serve as a backup batter.
Matthew Breetzke will be making his Test debut on the West Indies tour, while Marco Jansen takes a rest. The 25-year-old Breetzke has previously played six T20Is for the national team and is currently playing for Northamptonshire in the County Championship.
Wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton has been recalled to the squad, with Dane Paterson and Dane Piedt retaining their places after being part of the team for the recent New Zealand series. Wiaan Mulder remains the sole pace-bowling all-rounder in the squad, having last played a Test match at home against the West Indies.
Before heading to the Caribbean, the team will undergo a four-day camp in Durban. The first Test will take place in Port of Spain, Trinidad, starting on August 7, followed by the second Test in Guyana from August 15.
