BPL 2025: Rangpur Riders' 5th Consecutive Win, Dhaka's 4th Consecutive Loss
In their first match of the Sylhet phase, Dhaka Capitals could only manage a modest total of 111 runs. Despite having a strong batting line-up with players like Jason Roy, Sabbir Rahman, and Habibur Rahman Sohan, the team failed to perform. Only five batters managed to reach double figures, with the highest being 20 runs by Tanzid Tamim.
Rangpur Riders chased down the target comfortably, winning by 7 wickets with 40 balls to spare. This marks Rangpur’s 5th consecutive win in 5 matches. They are continuing their dominant performance in the BPL.
Dhaka Capitals, on the other hand, are struggling in their debut season, having failed to impress in the first four matches. Despite the addition of England's World Cup-winning opener, Jason Roy, to their squad, Dhaka's batting crumbled. Roy, who joined the team just hours before the match, managed only 18 runs off 12 balls. Sabbir Rahman, returning to the playing XI, could only score 2 runs.
The return of opener Habibur Rahman Sohan brought no improvement, as he scored just 14 runs from 3 boundaries. Tanzid Tamim top-scored with 20 runs, but once again, Liton Das fell for a single-digit score, getting out for 9 runs. Captain Thisara Perera was dismissed for a golden duck.
Al-Amin Babur was one of the few bright spots for Dhaka, scoring 16 runs, while Mosaddek Hossain managed only 12. Rangpur's bowlers dominated, with Nahid Rana taking 3 wickets for just 21 runs. Akif Javed took 2 wickets, and Khushdil Shah claimed 2 wickets as well. Dhaka Capitals were bundled out for just 111 runs in 16.3 overs.
Rangpur Riders, chasing a small target, lost opening batsman Azizul Hakim Tamim early. Bangladesh U-19 captain Tamim, after failing in the previous two matches, scored only 5 runs in 14 balls. However, Alex Hales, who had scored a century in the previous match, continued his great form and was on his way to another half-century. But he was dismissed for 44 runs, caught by Sabbir Rahman off the bowling of Mosaddek Hossain.
After Hales’ departure, Saif Hassan also departed cheaply for 13 runs. However, Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah steered Rangpur toward an easy victory, with Khushdil’s cameo of 27 runs from just 13 balls sealing the win. Rangpur Riders chased down the target with 6.4 overs to spare, winning by 7 wickets.
