BCB’s 17th Board Meeting Brings Key Decisions
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) held its crucial 17th Board meeting on Saturday, January 25th, where several important decisions were made, covering a range of topics including the formation of a new executive committee, issues regarding players' payments in the ongoing BPL, the Women’s BPL, and the suspension of the Constitutional Amendment Committee’s activities.
Executive Committee and Constitutional Amendments: The meeting concluded with the dissolution of the Constitutional Amendment Committee, led by Nazmul Abedin Fahim. The committee’s activities have been suspended, and the board will consult with all relevant stakeholders before revisiting changes to the constitution. The next steps will be determined after proper discussions and deliberations.
BPL Player Payments and Women’s BPL: The issue of player payments in the ongoing BPL was a significant topic of discussion. Additionally, the board addressed the launch of the Women’s BPL, with BCB opting to proceed cautiously, ensuring that the event is properly managed. The board has begun the Expression of Interest (EOI) process for event management firms for the inaugural Women's BPL tournament.
New Pay Structure for Umpires: The BCB approved a proposed pay structure for 33 contracted umpires under its payroll. The list includes one umpire from the ICC Elite Panel (Grade A+), four from the ICC International Panel (Grade A), four from the BCB Elite Panel (Grade B), and others from various panels, including emerging and regional umpires. This new structure aims to offer better compensation and career advancement opportunities for umpires.
Welfare Fund: To support those involved in Bangladesh cricket, including players, organizers, officials, and media members, the BCB approved the creation of a welfare fund. This fund will provide financial assistance and grants to cricket-related individuals in need.
These decisions reflect the BCB's efforts to address key issues in the cricketing landscape, with a focus on better management, fairness, and support for players, officials, and other stakeholders in the cricket community.
