BCB President's Evaluation of the Tigers' Performance in the World Cup
At the BCB board meeting on Tuesday, the performance of the Bangladesh team in the World Cup was discussed. It was anticipated that major decisions would come from the BCB regarding the World Cup's shortcomings. However, in reality, the decisions were not as negative as expected. Instead, BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon expressed satisfaction with the team's performance during the board meeting.
In a press conference, when asked whether they were satisfied or dissatisfied with the Bangladesh team's performance in the World Cup, BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon responded, "We were certainly pleased with the performance in the first round. Given the conditions here, any team could have lost to any other team. I am sure it was unexpected for the other teams as well. From that perspective, we are happy. This is one."
Expressing satisfaction with the senior players' performances, Papon said, "Mahmudullah Riyad has been consistently performing well on these pitches. We relied on them in the main phase on difficult wickets. Shakib and Mahmudullah don’t need to prove their abilities by playing. Do they need to show they are good players by playing well? Sure, Shakib may not be able to bat or bowl, but he hasn’t been able to bowl well either. Considering all these factors, if we look at it, I think reaching the second round was a good achievement."
Papon was disappointed with the performances of Shanto and Liton Das in the World Cup. Nonetheless, he defended their poor performances during the press conference, stating, "Shanto, Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad did not meet our expectations. In this regard, we are a bit disappointed. No matter what anyone says, Shanto became the captain of the team through his performance. He was performing well before. It's a different matter that he is not performing now. Liton Das has proven himself many times before."
