A remarkable and rare moment in cricket unfolded during the third ODI between South Africa and Ireland in Abu Dhabi. South Africa's batting coach, JP Duminy, stunned the audience by stepping onto the field as a substitute fielder, a rare occurrence in international cricket.

Duminy, who retired five years ago, was called upon to field for the Proteas due to several players suffering from exhaustion in the intense heat of the United Arab Emirates. Despite his long absence from playing, Duminy showcased his fielding skills, preventing several runs and keeping the Irish batters in check.

The scorching desert heat took a toll on the South African players, who were visibly struggling during the 50-over match. The South African squad has also been plagued by injuries throughout the series.

Captain Temba Bavuma was ruled out of the third ODI due to an elbow injury, while all-rounder Wiaan Mulder returned home for personal reasons. Opener Tony de Zorzi is recovering from a knee injury and has not played since the first ODI of the series.

Duminy, who was appointed as South Africa’s full-time batting coach in March last year, played 46 Tests, 199 ODIs, and 81 T20Is for South Africa between 2004 and 2019. His surprise return to the field was a thrilling moment for fans and a testament to his enduring commitment to the team.
