Bangladesh's Mushfiqur Rahim and Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto Likely to Miss ODI Series Against West Indies
After missing the Test series against the West Indies, Bangladesh's experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim is likely to miss the upcoming ODI series as well. The chances of captain Najmul Hossain Shanto also missing the ODI series are high. A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed this to Cricbuzz.
Mushfiqur Rahim suffered a finger injury towards the end of Afghanistan's innings in the opening match of the three-match series in the UAE. An X-ray after the match revealed a fracture, meaning he will be out of action for four to six weeks.
On the other hand, Najmul Hossain Shanto injured his groin while fielding during the second ODI and was subsequently ruled out of the Test series against the West Indies.
A BCB official confirmed to Cricbuzz, "Mushfiq will need more time to recover, so I don't think he will be able to play in the ODI series against the West Indies. As for captain Shanto, we are closely monitoring his recovery. We will wait until the squad announcement to see if he will be fit enough to play."
Regarding Shanto, the official stated, "We are not taking any risks with his groin injury. If he re-injures it while playing, he could be sidelined for another month to six weeks. That would be disastrous, especially with the Champions Trophy coming up. However, from what I understand, he is making good progress."
The ODI series against the West Indies is set to begin on December 8, followed by the T20 series starting on December 16.
