The second day of the Sylhet Test is underway. At the end of the first day, Bangladesh, hoping to turn the game around, quickly lost three wickets. However, in the morning session, Bangladesh faced further disappointment, losing three more wickets. Nightwatchman Taijul Islam was dismissed early on the second day, setting a personal best of 47 runs in the test. Despite Bangladesh's efforts, they were all out for 188 runs by the end. Sri Lanka, having scored 280 runs in their first innings, may begin their second innings with a lead of 92 runs.

Before the start of play, within the first 30 minutes, opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy was dismissed, quickly followed by Shadman Islam, stumped by Liton Das. Facing the pace of Lahiru Kumara, Bangladesh lost three wickets in the morning session. However, Taijul Islam showed resilience, scoring runs for Bangladesh in the morning session. With a career-best innings, Taijul Islam kept Bangladesh fighting. Unfortunately, Taijul missed out on a fifty after lunch, falling to Kasun Rajitha. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was also sent back by Rajitha. After Miraz's departure with 147 runs on the board, Bangladesh's concerns mounted. However, Shariful and Khaled provided resistance, but disaster struck when Shariful was caught by the Sri Lankan captain. Shariful departed after scoring a personal 15 runs, leaving Bangladesh at 187 for 9 wickets. Khalid Ahmed, the last batsman, was out for 22 runs.

Earlier, Taijul Islam, who batted as a nightwatchman, was dismissed by Lahiru Kumara after scoring a quickfire 47 runs, his personal best in Tests. The partnership between Taijul Islam and Liton Kumar Das added 41 runs, but Kumara struck again to dismiss Liton, leaving Bangladesh struggling at 25 runs.
