In their T20 World Cup debut, Bangladesh posted a total of 119 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Chasing the target, the Scottish women fell short, scoring just 103 runs, resulting in a 16-run victory for Bangladesh.
The tournament kicked off today in Sharjah with the match between Bangladesh and Scotland. In a stunning performance, Bangladesh's women ended their losing streak, achieving their first win after a disappointing run of 16 matches across the last four World Cups.
Winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti opted to bat first. The opening partnership contributed 26 runs before Murshida Khatun was dismissed for 12. However, fellow opener Sathi Rani scored a commendable 29 runs.
Coming in at number three, Sobhana Mostari made a solid contribution of 36 runs before being bowled while attempting an aggressive shot. Taj Nehar was dismissed without scoring, and captain Nigar Sultana could only manage 18 runs. Ultimately, Bangladesh finished their innings at 119 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
In their chase for 120 runs, Scotland struggled to maintain momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals. Opener Sarah Bryce stood out with a fighting innings of 49 runs, remaining unbeaten but unable to secure a win for her team. Scotland concluded their innings with 103 runs, losing 7 wickets, and Bangladesh celebrated a well-earned 16-run victory.
With the ball, Ritu Moni was exceptional, taking 2 wickets for just 15 runs. The other four bowlers each claimed one wicket, showcasing a strong bowling performance from the Bangladeshi side.
