Bangladesh Squad Announced for ODI Series Against Afghanistan, Shanto as Captain

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the national cricket team squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the 15-member squad as captain. The series, scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates, features pace bowler Nahid Rana as a new addition to the ODI squad.

Notably, batter Litton Kumer Das has been left out of the squad. He is still recovering from a fever and was not considered for selection after missing the second Test against South Africa due to his illness.

Despite earlier speculation of Najmul Hossain Shanto possibly stepping down from the captaincy before the final Test against South Africa, he will continue to lead the ODI team. Mehidy Hasan Miraz will accompany the team as vice-captain on their tour to the UAE.

Yesterday, in Chattogram, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed spoke to journalists, stating that Shakib Al Hasan was unlikely to participate in the series against Afghanistan. Therefore, Shakib's exclusion from the announced squad didn’t come as a major surprise.

For the opening spots, Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, and Zakir Hasan have been included. In the middle order, the team will rely on experienced players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, and Towhid Hridoy. With Litton Das unavailable, wicketkeeper Jaker Ali Anik has also been included in the squad.

Alongside Vice-Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the spin attack will feature Rishad Hossain and Nasum Ahmed. The pace attack includes Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shariful Islam, with uncapped Nahid Rana joining as an additional pace option.

The Bangladesh team will depart for Dubai in two groups on Saturday and Sunday. The three ODI matches will take place on November 6, 9, and 11, all hosted at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
