Even before the excitement of the tournament begins, Bangladesh has earned recognition on the global cricket stage. On Friday (30 January), the ICC released the final list of umpires and match referees for the group stage of the mega event, with Bangladesh’s two international umpires, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Soikat and Gazi Sohel, included.
The ICC stated that a total of six match referees and 24 umpires have been selected for the group stage. The officials for the Super Eight and knockout stages will be announced later.
Sharfuddoula has so far officiated in 75 T20I matches, including 54 as an on-field umpire and 21 as a TV umpire. Meanwhile, Gazi Sohel has served in 59 T20I matches as an on-field umpire, with 40 matches on-field and 19 as a TV umpire.
The World Cup will commence on 7 February with the opening match between Pakistan and the Netherlands, which will be officiated by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Dharmasena and New Zealand’s Wayne Knights.
