From the brink of tea to the brink of chai (tea), Bangladesh lost four wickets, edging closer to a significant defeat. With four wickets down, Bangladesh's total stands at 132 runs. Shakib Al Hasan is on 14, while Liton Das remained unbeaten on zero runs before the tea break. The team now requires another 379 runs to win, with only six wickets in hand.

None of Bangladesh's openers could contribute significantly to the innings. Mahmudul Hasan Joy, after scoring a personal 24 runs, was stumped off Praveen Jayawickrama's delivery, breaking the 37-run opening partnership. The other opener, Zakir Hasan, managed only 19 runs in the innings. Despite being set as the anchor, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto could only add 20 runs before being dismissed by Lahiru Kumara's fantastic delivery.

After losing three wickets for just 94 runs, Bangladesh's fortress began to crumble. However, a brief partnership between Mominul Haque and Shakib Al Hasan brought some respite. Mominul hit a quick fifty in just 55 balls, marking his 18th Test half-century. However, soon after celebrating the milestone, Mominul lost his wicket. In the final over of the session, he departed, leaving Shakib to partner with Liton Das.

Bangladesh finds themselves sinking in the sea of runs. Sri Lanka declared their second innings at 157 runs for the loss of seven wickets, setting a daunting target of 511 runs for Bangladesh. With the lead from the previous innings added, Bangladesh is facing a target that requires a world-record chase to win. In such a scenario, Tigers find themselves four wickets down before completing 34 overs.

Mominul Haque's dismissal in the final over of the session further compounded Bangladesh's troubles. Despite reaching his 18th Test half-century earlier in the innings, this experienced batsman couldn't navigate the team out of danger.

In the Sylhet Test, Bangladesh faced a similar target of 511 runs. They were all out for 182 runs in their second innings, resulting in a significant defeat by 328 runs in the World Test Championship match.
