Bangladesh fined 10 percent of match fee for slow over-rate
Bangladesh have been fined 10 percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate. The sanction was imposed after they failed to complete the required number of overs within the allotted time in the second ODI against New Zealand in Dhaka on Monday.
Match Referee Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel confirmed that Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s side were two overs short of the target. Even after time allowances were taken into consideration, the shortfall remained, leading to the penalty under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
According to the rules, players are fined 5 percent of their match fee for each over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. As Bangladesh were two overs short, the total fine amounts to 10 percent of the match fee.
Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, meaning there was no need for a formal hearing.
On-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Gazi Sohel, third umpire Nitin Menon, and fourth umpire Masudur Rahman Mukul leveled the charge.
